Ford Reorganizes Autonomous Vehicle Deployment Efforts Into New Business Unit
Ford made a surprise announcement this week of a further reorganization of its business as the automaker prepares for the long-term transition to automated mobility services. All of the various groups within Ford that are working on the development and deployment of automated vehicles are being subsumed into Ford Autonomous Vehicles LLC (AVLLC). AVLLC is for now at least a wholly owned subsidiary of Ford Motor Company with Sherif Marakby as its CEO and Marcy Klevorn as chairman of its board of directors. The reason given for the move is enable a faster decision making process within an organization that is wholly focused on deployment of this new technology. By taking some of the lines of reporting out of the larger corporate organization and condensing it within this smaller subset, it is possible that there will be less battling for resources with other priorities.

Cloudera says the goal of the new units is to increase innovation and help their customers transform their most complex data into actionable insights. Cloud-based machine learning and analytics platform provider Cloudera, Inc. announced the creation of three new business units that will focus on their machine learning, cloud and analytics initiatives. The company says the goal of the additional resources and organizational structure is to increase innovation, accelerate their machine learning and analytics offerings, and assist their customers in transforming their complex data into actionable insights. "By creating these new business units, we will accelerate our momentum and extend our leadership in these areas while building on the incredible platform we've developed over many years. This focus bolsters our ability to deliver on our vision: helping customers grow, connect, and protect using machine learning, analytics, and cloud," said Tom Reilly, Cloudera' CEO.

The chipmaking giant is taking its autonomous car efforts out the Internet of Things business group and creating a new business unit focused exclusively on the new market, called the Automated Driving Group. Doug Davis, the current head of Intel's Internet of Things division, will be heading up the new unit. In August, Davis had announced he would be retiring from Intel soon, but it looks like he changed his mind. "Throughout his career, Doug has consistently been on the leading side of disruption โ standing up amazing new technologies that redefine how we experience work and life," said Intel president Murthy Renduchintala in a blog post.
Accenture forms new business unit around IPsoft's Amelia AI platform ZDNet
Accenture has announced a new business unit in partnership with IPsoft focused on spurring adoption of artificial intelligence in the enterprise. The systems integration and outsourcing giant plans to use IPsoft's Amelia AI platform as the core of the new Accenture Amelia practice. Amelia is similar to Apple's Siri and Amazon's Alexa, but is touted as more expressive and capable of empathy than her AI peers. Accenture said it will develop a suite of go-to-market strategies and consulting services based off of the Amelia platform. As Accenture CTO Paul Daugherty explained, the point is to appeal to executives who "are overwhelmed by the plethora of technologies and many products that are advertising AI or Cognitive capabilities".
